Overview: Designing for Financial Confidence
Vendors on e-commerce platforms often struggle to understand how much tax they owe from their sales, leading to confusion and unexpected deductions during withdrawals. This case study explores the design of a Smart Tax Assistant integrated directly into a vendor wallet to help sellers track estimated tax obligations in real time.
The Challenge
How might we use smart assistance to help vendors estimate and understand taxes without disrupting their earnings workflow?
While vendors can clearly see their balance, inflows, and outflows, tax obligations are often unclear and handled outside the platform. This disconnect makes it difficult for vendors to plan withdrawals and manage earnings confidently.

The Solution: Tax Clarity, Built into the Wallet
The Smart Tax Assistant lives directly within the wallet dashboard as an Estimated Tax card, making tax visibility a natural part of the vendor’s financial flow. Using sales data and location-based tax rules, the assistant automatically calculates an estimated tax amount and updates it as sales change.
With a single click, vendors can view a clear breakdown showing:
Total sales for the period
Applicable tax rate
Estimated tax owed
Net earnings after tax
With a tax breakdown view, vendors can understand how the estimate was calculated, reinforcing trust and transparency.

Impact & Key Takeaways
The main impact will be a smarter wallet experience for e-commerce vendors. This feature transforms the wallet from a passive balance tracker into an active financial assistant, empowering vendors to make informed decisions and avoid last-minute tax surprises.
Key Takeaways:
Building for simplicity makes a bigger impact than adding complex features.
Early usability testing was crucial to shaping a user-friendly experience.
Real empathy for small teams created a tool that truly fit their everyday needs.
